Drop-in workshop at the opening of Slow is a Verb — The Young Curators' Reading Room, an exhibition curated by the nine participants of the PRAKSIS Teen Advisory Board / Young Curators Mentorship at Nitja Centre for Contemporary Art, Lillestrøm. João had previously developed ‘utility posters’ together with the young curators as a support tool for collaboration and asking for help. The opening also featured the launch of Reaching Out: A Book about Agency, Care, Identity, and… (Rooftop Press), a collaborative project by youth advisory boards from PRAKSIS (Oslo), Index (Stockholm), and PUBLICS (Helsinki). The 2025 edition of 10 undersøkelser takes hope as its theme — a driving force in human beings and a prerequisite for social change. Ten young Norwegians from multicultural backgrounds share their own experiences of hope and hopelessness.

Published in newspaper format as a supplement in Klassekampen on 27 September 2025, and distributed at libraries and art institutions in Tromsø, Bodø, Trondheim, Bergen, Stavanger, and Oslo.

A workshop at the Nasjonalmuseet where participants share stories through voice and paper and shape them into independent publications, printed collectively using a Risograph machine.

Participants bring a small material sample — writing or images — to share with the group. The material is collectively discussed, edited, printed, and bound into one or more publications on the same day. No prior experience in writing or image-making is required.

Open studio day at the Nasjonalmuseet, January 25, 2025. The workshop space was open for anyone curious about riso print, zines or the work produced at the preceding zine workshop. Visitors could browse zines and see examples of riso print.

Inspired by the collection of the Queer Zine Archive Project, on display in the exhibition "Å samle på døgnfluer. Inn i motearkivet" (Collecting Ephemera: Into the Fashion Archive) in the Prints and Drawings galleries.

A screen printing pop-up with Plantas Studio as part of the 95th anniversary celebration of Kunstnernes Hus. Visitors could bring a tote bag or T-shirt and brighten it up with a #HusetVårt print.

The full-day celebration included a performance programme, the Autumn Exhibition (organized by NBK), family workshops, DJs, and a fundraiser for the renovation of Kunstnernes Hus.

A riso workshop at Kunstnernes Hus exploring the building’s rich and diverse historical archive. Participants created collages with archival material and gave them new life using the riso duplicator’s vibrant pigments and textures.

Omsorgsbua supplements Søstra100's installation at "Hånd og Maskin" — the first architecture exhibition at the new Norwegian National Museum. The publication is a 3-prong volume stapled across a long, folded cover.

The first volume reflects on Søstra's feminist architecture practice, the second displays their handmade architecture drawings, and the third is a set of care exercise cards. Co-published by Good in Theory, Plantas Press and Søstra100.

Kunst som straff is the exhibition catalogue for Agder Kunstakademi's closing show at Kunstnernes Hus. AK's project ran a rich and layered art school program inside Frøland Fengsel for 3 years, coordinated by Thora Dolven Balke and Kristine Jærn Pilgaard.

Plantas Press exhibited at Kunstbok Oslo, an art book fair showcasing art books, zines, comics, monographs and fiction by artists and independent publishers. Held at UKS (Unge Kunstneres Samfund) at Keysers Gate 1, Oslo.

The eighth edition of 10 undersøkelser explores the theme of artificial intelligence. Published in newspaper format and distributed through Klassekampen, 2023.

Din pust, din stemme (Your Breath, Your Voice) is the catalogue for the exhibition of the same name, curated by social anthropologist Dr. Michelle Tisdel. The publication displays visual and oral history documentation regarding the George Floyd protests in Oslo.

The graphic design strategy functions like a political pamphlet, guiding the reader between speeches, oral history interviews and articles activated by documentary imagery. An extended use of HEX Franklin with custom cuts of varying compression creates typography that breathes with urgency — sometimes set for reading, other times compelling the reader towards revolt and action. Every design decision carries meaning: from the hand-sized format for transit, to the red thread and exposed binding showing names of people who lost their lives to police brutality, to the golden ink celebrating community.

Co-published by Lift Every Voice, Plantas Press and Transcultural Arts Production (TrAP).

Etter noen vanskelige år med pandemi kjente vi et behov for å utforske nettopp kjærligheten, og i årets utgave av 10 undersøkelser har vi invitert mennesker med ulik kunst- og kulturbakgrunn til å dele nettopp sine tanker og følelser rundt temaet. Eller til å rett og slett bli inspirert av kjærligheten.

A comprehensive archival study of Sverre Fehn’s Nordic Pavilion in Venice (1962), authored by Mari Lending and Erik Langdalen. Published by Pax Forlag / Lars Müller Publishers.

Commissioned the Nordic Pavilion typeface from Scott Vander Zee for this publication, and contributed the essay “Notes on the Lettering”, which closes the book. The text explains the reasoning behind the typeface and explores what happens when the formal qualities found on the pavilion lettering become software. The book also features historic image references that informed the typeface’s Stylistic Sets and Contextual Alternates.

The sixth edition of 10 undersøkelser explores the path into Norwegian art and cultural life. People from diverse backgrounds share their experiences and reflections on choosing creative careers — even when the conditions are not always in their favour.

A typeface commissioned from Scott Vander Zee, originally designed for the publication Sverre Fehn, Nordic Pavilion, Venice: Voices from the Archives (Lars Müller Publishers, 2021). The typeface explores what happens when the formal qualities found on the pavilion’s original lettering become software.

The design features Stylistic Sets and Contextual Alternates informed by historic image references from the pavilion. Since its debut in the book, the typeface has found a second life in other publications.

The fifth edition of 10 undersøkelser examines gentrification, with particular focus on Tøyen and Grønland in Oslo. The publication centres the voices of those who experience the consequences of gentrification firsthand.

A talk by João Doria and Kristina Ketola Bore at the library of Rogaland Kunstsenter in Stavanger, presenting The Ventriloquist Summerschool as a platform. The talk was held in English.

Through The Ventriloquist Summerschool, Doria and Ketola Bore had initiated discussions about the role of voice, discourse and accountability in artistic practices — issues they saw as lacking in their local setting. The talk created a setting for both speaking and listening in equal parts, engaging with methods deployed in the summer school while opening up to topics beyond its immediate practices.

The second edition of The Ventriloquist Summerschool, organized by João Doria and Kristina Ketola Bore. The theme explored the role of illusion as a way of being, working and generating knowledge — what’s involved in accepting, rejecting, validating and iterating such constructs, and how we use them to project and deal with what’s in front and ahead of us.

Five parallel workshops ran during the week at 1857, a former lumberyard in the Grønland area of Oslo, along with a public programme of evening lectures. The 35 selected participants worked with tutors Talk Magazine (Eric Hu and Harry Gassel), Anu Vathra, Nicole Killian, Kristina Ketola Bore and João Doria.

The first edition of The Ventriloquist Summerschool, a graphic design summer school co-founded and organized by João Doria and Kristina Ketola Bore. The theme explored voice, self-representation and the reasons for practising graphic design today, with tutors Kristian Henson and Laura Pappa.

The school attracted applicants from 17 countries and institutions including Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo, Royal College of Art, ISIA Urbino, Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Sandberg Institute, Yale University, Princeton, Cranbrook and Pratt Institute. A public programme at Grafill featured the ventriloquist Jan-Robert Henriksen, Tove Sivertsen of Tableau Paper, and researcher Ellef Prestsæter.

Iselin & João will talk about “Vogue’s Potential Guide to Life”, their visual-basic-meets-archive publication, which originated from looking into the history of “How To” articles in the Vogue USA’s digital archive. Through computation and literature, 65 thousand fictional article titles are presented and indexed over 156 pages.

For the third reprint of VPGL, João commissioned Iselin Steiro to write a reaction piece. Steiro’s response was a summary of her many experiences from working for Vogue — a conceptual memoir?

Fourth edition of Posters for Palestine, a solidarity sales exhibition of riso prints by Palestinian and Norwegian artists. All income goes directly to Palestinian artists from Gaza. Exhibited at Grafill, Oslo. João Doria de Souza is among 18 new contributing artists in this edition, alongside Sliman Mansour, Samia Halaby, Malak Mattar, Carmel Alabbasi, and others. Organised by Marie Payan, Martin Lundell, Espen Friberg and Mats Grorud.

An exhibition dedicated to the book spine — a crucial yet often overlooked element of book design. Featuring over 100 spines from diverse genres, the exhibition explores how designers have turned this functional surface into a site of expression and visual identity.

Curated by Aslak Gurholt and Fraser Muggeridge. Exhibited at PrintRoom’s Living Archive Space, supplemented with books from PrintRoom’s collection of artist books.

An exhibition dedicated to the book spine — a crucial yet often overlooked element of book design. With several hundred spines on display from various genres, the exhibition demonstrates how the spine is far more than a structural component.

Curated by Aslak Gurholt and Fraser Muggeridge. The project was first shown at London Centre for Book Arts in 2024 and has since toured to Kunsthal Gent, einBuch.haus in Berlin, Vienna Art Book Fair, and PrintRoom in Rotterdam.

An open drop-in event at the Nasjonalmuseet inviting visitors behind the scenes of Plantas Studio. Visitors could talk with João, browse his work organized in multiple sections, and try riso printing.

The event was inspired by the Queer Zine Archive Project collection, shown in the exhibition «Å samle på døgnfluer. Inn i motearkivet» in the Grafikk og tegning galleries, and served as a companion to the riso-print workshop held a few days earlier.
